IUS Students Among Top Finalists at TEKNOFEST 2025
The International University of Sarajevo (IUS) proudly celebrates the success of its students at TEKNOFEST 2025, one of Turkey’s largest technology and innovation events.
Under the mentorship of Associate Professor Dr. Jasmin Šutković, the IUS – IEEE Marmara Bioengineering Team competed in the Oncology 3T – Lung Cancer category with the project “Targeting ALK in NSCLC: In silico Drug Repurposing and Molecular Docking of Interactome Partners.”
Out of a total of 204 participating teams, only 24 advanced to the finals. Competing in the Oncology category, where top universities - including some from across Europe - presented projects ranging from undergraduate to PhD-level research, the IUS–Marmara team’s placement among the top 15 represents an extraordinary accomplishment.

The IUS–IEEE Marmara Bioengineering Team brings together young researchers from both IUS and Marmara University:
- From IUS (Bioengineering double diploma program): Zehra Mercan (team coordinator) and Sümeyye Ayşe Genç
- From Marmara University (Bioengineering program): Emre Kundakçı (team captain), Kiana Rahimi, and Setenay Sıla Tunç
- Mentor: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jasmin Šutković
Innovative Research
The project explored the role of ALK1 in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) using advanced in silico approaches. By mapping protein interactions and testing drug repurposing options, the team aimed to suggest new therapeutic strategies for ALK1-positive NSCLC cases.
International Collaboration
This achievement underscores the value of the joint Bioengineering double diploma program between IUS and Marmara University, where students gain not only quality education but also opportunities for cross-border research and international recognition.
