Production Planning and Optimization
Group leaders: Full Prof. Dr. Sencer Yeralan and Assist. Prof. Dr. Özge Büyükdağlı
Research interest:
This research group is interested in the design and application of mathematical optimization models and techniques on production/inventory systems.
One of the topics is the optimal control of production lines with uncertainties. The work under this topic includes developing and investigating mathematical models and algorithms that would yield optimal control policies for complex stochastic production processes. In addition, for industrial practice, suboptimal policies can also work relatively well, therefore, searching for heuristic algorithms and policies is also a research priority.
Another topic under this research group is the scheduling side of production planning. Many of the scheduling problems are NP-hard problems. Finding a good performing algorithm to generate schedules is a real challenge. Additionally, these problems can also be easily converted to real-life supply-chain problems. As manufacturing and supply chains have a great effect on society justifies the research effort invested in this field of modeling and optimization.
